Last Friday, leaders of five political coalitions and parties, including Pakatan Harapan Chairman Anwar, Barisan Nasional Chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Gabungan Parti Sarawak Chairman Abang Johari Openg signed a deal pledging their support for a unity government led by Anwar. Yet, experts stress that this grouping is politically awkward. Oh Ei Sun, a senior fellow at the Singapore Institute of International Affairs, believes that if Anwar is too outspoken the government could collapse or be paralyzed by a backlash.
